This is one of my absolute favorite nymphs to tie and fish ( I do fish these on tenkara gear as well as western rod and reel). For me a a fly need to do more than just catch fish to be one of my favorites; it needs to also be something that I enjoy tying and enjoy looking at and enjoy fishing. This fly ticks all the boxes for me. It’s hard to do something that somebody hasn’t already done. I came to this particular combination of materials independently (but of course there are flies that I based it on – I talk about that in the video). I’ve seen other folks ties very similar flies and that’s one reason that I haven’t ever given this fly a special name and simply call it a bead head pheasant tail nymph.
