The next episode of Tenkara Cast (with myself and Jason Klass of Tenkara Talk) is going to feature John Vetterli and ERiK Ostrander of Tenkara Guides LLC. ERiK and John recently returned from a trip to Japan where they fished with modern tenkara masters Masami “Tenkara no Oni” Sakakibara, Hiromichi Fuji and Dr. Hisao Ishigaki as well as members of the Harima and No Tarin tenkara clubs.
Now Tenkara Cast is giving you the opportunity to ask John and ERiK those questions about tenkara in Japan that you’ve always want ask. Also maybe they’ll let us know what the heck is up with the mysterious Team Oni USA.
So go to this form HERE and enter your questions.
If you haven’t already heck out the Tenkara Cast Episode One.
Did Erik where a kilt his whole Japan trip? And if so what did the Japanese think of his kilt?
Why does ERiK spell his name like that?
It seems that Tenkara is being made more and more complicated. When I began Tenkara, I follow Daniel Galhardo’ philosophy and knowledge. Since then, I have never had a problem fly fishing Tenkara style. Now, I read Patagonia’s founder writing a book with Western casting for Tenkara, and dozen of articles about different kinds of flies and casts, etc. I fish a lot and always get trout, and even a steelhead.. Let’s keep Tenkara simple, like the Japanes anglers do it.
I tend to keep my tenkara pretty simple too – but I always figure different strokes for different folks. And there’s more variety in tenkara in Japan than many realize I think – personal and regional. I’m hoping John and ERiK will expound on that a bit in the next episode.
