Roll your own custom tenkara rods…or get them to do it for you

BYO kit componentsWell we all knew it was going to happen sooner or later – roll your own tenkara rod kits. I have to admit I just read about this and don’t know a whole lot about it yet, I know nothing of the company or the quality of the product – so this is by no means a review of any kind. When I saw Jason Klass’ post about this over at Tenkara Talk – I was instantly enraptured with the idea.  Assembling your own tenkara rod – cool. Now compared to a western rod – there isn’t much too it. There’s no guides and no reel seat – so that takes a lot of the work out of it.

So rather than real “build” it’s more of a little assembly project. I plan on doing it as a winter project with the kids. Something to pass the long cold winter hours. And as anyone who ties their own flies, makes line or leaders, or puts together western rods will tell you – it’s always fun to fish with things that you had a hand in producing.

There are several options available. You can order a kit and put it together yourself, or you can have them customize it for you – also custom paint, striping, grip are available too.

As far as I can see- right now there’s just one option on the blank, and it would be cool to see more options available – but perhaps that will be forthcoming.

So I’ll keep you updated when I get started on this.

p.s. As I said this is just a news piece, not a review, so I am in no way making statements about the company or product (of which I have no knowledge yet) – just bringing it to your attention.
