Anthony...Thanks for the review and heads up on this book. I'm always looking to read books based on natural history and this one sounds like it would be up my alley. BTW..did you check out the winter 2011 issue of Fly Tyer? Morgan Lyle wrote an article about tenkara and sakasa kebari. He mentions both of us along with a few fellow tenkara anglers in the article.

Jean - I don't have a good answer to your question. If you go to the publisher's webpage for this book here => http://departurepublishing.com/keeper/ you'll find links to places to buy it in the UK, but they both appear to be online retailers. Also provided is the author's email address - perhaps he can help you. Best of luck - I hope you can find it.

Hi Anthony,

Thanks for your reply. Di u have a Facebook page? Friend me at Matt Hanist and check out my steelhead, Montana, and other albums. I was pretty much just teasing you about the steelhead and Tenkara. Those fish are just to hot and powerful to fish for without line on a reel.

I fish Elk mostly but also many of the eastern mile creeks. On Elk I use a 11' 3" switch rod for a #6. I high stick it mostly and extending my arm is akin to at least a 13' rod. Virtually none of my fly line is on the water, or at most one foot. You need a gentle hand and a rod that has a forgiving action to hold fish on 4X and often 5X flourocarbon. I can hook and play them on 5X but a quick head snap or landing them in the shallows and they are gone.

Have fun at Erie and let me know how you do. BTW do you ever fish the WB, or main stem, of the Delaware? That is my home water and fish it about 60 days a season. I think you would have fun there with the Tenkara and my drift boat.

Best regards,

Matt

Thanks Morgan. It is one of those fish that will be remembered always, for its singularity that day. I'm not ashamed to admit that I find much pleasure in catching these small wonders in small streams. I've gone full circle in many ways. The first wild trout that I caught were tiny (4 or 5 inch) brookies in a stream that you could straddle without any effort. In the intervening years I thought that I had moved on - but I've come back to my roots a bit, thanks in part to tenkara.

That's an amazingly pretty fish and the effort that went into catching it makes it even better.
