I just came upon this blog called Fly Fishing in South Wales. I haven’t been following it very long but I really like what I’ve seen so far. The title of the post that the above pic comes from really caught my eye: “Sacrificials”. It’s funny that as soon as I read the title I knew what to expect. The non fly-fisher might not get it, but the experienced nympher gets it right away.

Anthony,
How does he attach the split shot to the fly???
I believe the trick is to tie in a piece of mono, attach split-shot and then loop the mono back onto the hook.
Anthony, a massive thanks for the plug here :) Really glad you like FFISW.
You’ve got it spot on re: the attachment of the split-shot. I use 8lb mono, and crimp the shot to it. Tie one leg of the mono down first, then the second leg on top of it. Varnish over to make sure it’s firmly secured, then start building the fly. Works a treat :)
Anthony, thanks again for the plug and the link, I shall return the favour.
All the best,
Gareth
